Lake Khövsgöl or the Khövsgöl Ocean is a fresh water lake located at 1645 meters above sea level in Khövsgöl province in the northern part of Mongolia. This lake is the lake with the most volume and the deepest lake of Mongolia. Lake Khövsgöl is one of the seventeen ancient lakes of the world. It is calculated as having an age of more than 2 million years. The total water volume is 381 $km^3$, which equals 0.4 percent of the world’s fresh water. 46 rivers and streams flow into Lake Khövsgöl, and only the Egiin River takes source and flows out, pouring into the Selenge River. Going on, it travels a total distance of 1000 km and pours into Lake Baikal. The direct distance between these two lakes is merely 200 km. Lake Khövsgöl is 262.4 meters at its deepest part, its length is 136 km, and its widest part is 36.5 km. The Lake Khövsgöl National Park belongs to the transition zone of the Siberian taiga and Central Asian steppe zone. In summer time, water transport is conducted between Khatgal and Turt, two ports located at the southern and northern shores of Lake Khövsgöl. Around Lake Khövsgöl is rich in phosphorite.
